Kutahya
City of National Independence
About the city of Kutahya
Kütahya, which was introduced to the Turkic civilizations in the late 11th century after the victory at Manzikert, was the capital of the Germianoğulları beylik and also the place where the Ottoman Empire was founded. In addition, Kütahya has a rich cultural heritage as the place where the greatest victory in “Turkish and world military history” was won.
August 30, Victory Day, is the day of liberation of Kutahya from enemy occupation. Every year, ceremonial events are held in Kutahya, Dumlupınar, Çalköy and Zafertepe.
During the Republic period, Kütahya was given the status of a province and was connected to Balıkesir by rail in 1931. However, it could not develop like Eskişehir and Afyonkarahisar. In 1953, after the separation of Uşak, Kütahya was reduced in size.
In recent years, Kutahya has been rapidly industrializing and developing, approaching its brilliant past.
