19 May University (OMÜ) is one of the largest public universities in Turkey, founded in 1975. It was established to contribute to the economic, cultural and social development of the Black Sea region. In more than 45 years of operation, the university has become a leading research and education center with universal values and an intellectual approach.
OMÜ is named after "May 19", the date when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk landed in Samsun on the steamship "Bandırma", marking the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence.

Campuses and infrastructure
OMÜ has a unique natural campus. The central campus Kuropelit (8,800 hectares) is located on the Black Sea coast, providing a breathtaking panoramic view of the endless horizon.
Other campuses:
Fine Arts Campus - located at the entrance to the city, on the seashore.
Mustafa Kemal Guneshdodu Campus is located in the Carsamba district.
10 additional campuses - scattered throughout various areas of the region.
Inclusive Education (Barrier-Free University)
OMÜ works hard to create an inclusive educational environment. The campuses are adapted for students with special needs. For these achievements, the university has received 13 "Orange Flags" from the Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK).
